Point of sale (POS) terminal

Before a CreditBank PNG POS account can be set up for you, you will need to have a Business Transaction account in place with us. Once you have this and you select a card machine, your account will be set up.

A Point of Sale (POS) terminal works by reading information from a customer credit or debit card. It can do this several ways, including:

• Chip and PIN - the POS terminal 'reads' an embedded chip that stores the customers 4-digit PIN.
• Contactless - the customer touches their card or mobile Tap to Pay on or near the card reader which detects the customer's details using a wireless technology called Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The information transferred through a contactless payment is encrypted, meaning it is difficult to intercept. The contactless limit is currently set at K50.
• Mobile wallets (such as Apple Pay) - these are apps that use Near-Field Communication (NFC) to provide card information.

It only takes a few seconds for the cardholder’s payment information to be transferred from the cardholder’s bank to the merchant’s acquiring bank or payment services provider using Near Field Transfer (NFT.) Once available funds are detected and the transaction can be approved.

Your funds should arrive in your selected business bank account within the next business day of the transaction taking place if the settlement is made in Kina Faster settlement options are available at a small charge.

The terminal battery should last up to 10 hours before requiring a charge. It is possible to process transactions when the card reader is charging.
